When I look at Poinsettias, all I can think about is Christmas! Their bright red, blush pink and soft white petals make the most beautiful floral displays, don’t you think?

As much as I love them, I can’t have Poinsettias in my house because they’re toxic to cats.

This year, I decided to bring them into my home in a cat-friendly way - making them out of computer paper! With the help of the most Christmas-ey colors, Boxwood and Tricycle, our Christmas tree is now adorned with my handmade paper Poinsettia flowers.

Keep on scrolling to see how I did it!

Supplies For Making Paper Poinsettias

  • Exacto Knife

  • Boxwood and Tricycle MMS MilkPaint™

  • 2 Small Cups (For mixing your MMS MilkPaint™)

  • Water

Tips For Mixing Tricycle

If this is your first time using Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint or the color Tricycle, I have a few tips to help you mix your paint. First, give this tutorial video a watch.

My second tip for you is specific to the color Tricycle. Its red pigments resist being mixed at first. You’ll add your water and begin stirring, and it will look like nothing is happening.

Don’t worry…it’s normal.

Just keep stirring and all of a sudden, the powder will mix into the water and you’ll be all set. Be patient and know you’re not doing anything wrong. That’s just the nature of Tricycle.

Paper Poinsettia Tutorial Video

Without further delay, here is my tutorial video that teaches you how to make your own paper Poinsettias.

Once I finished making mine, I wired them to our Christmas tree. My Poinsettias looked right at home among the twinkle lights and ornaments.

I think the crinkling of the paper gives the appearance of variegated veins on real Poinsettias.

You can paint your Poinsettias in a color besides Tricycle. Try Linen to get creamy white softness. Pink Grapefruit (formally named Apron Strings) is a great alternative as well! You can also experiment with different berries for the middle. Try adding more paper leaves or mixing up your own custom shade of green.

As always, the possibilities are endless!
