Say Hello To NEW MilkCoat™!
Have a surface that’s going to see a lot of use? We’ve got just the topcoat for that!
Everyone, say “hello” to our NEW MilkCoat™
What Is MilkCoat™?
MilkCoat™ is our water-based, hard-drying, acrylic topcoat. Instead of being a liquid, like our former Tough Coat, NEW MilkCoat™ has a gel consistency. It kind of looks like face cream when you open the jar!
It comes in 3 beautiful sheens - matte (no shine), satin (low shine) and gloss (high shine). We wanted to make sure everyone’s design tastes were represented with our options. Some people love the high gloss look, while others prefer a matte finish.
MilkCoat™ can be used in kitchens and bathrooms, tabletops, window sills and trim. It’s fantastic at locking in chippy paint finishes too, so keep it handy if you like that sort of look.
It dries extremely fast too, and is washable 24 hours after application. This gives you a super fast turnaround time on all sorts of projects!
MilkCoat™ Is Eco-Friendly
Like all of the products in our relaunched collection, MilkCoat™ is safe for you and the environment.
MilkCoat™ is a low odor product and has low VOC’s, allowing you to breathe easy! It’s water-based too, so when you’re all finished, clean up your applicator tools at the kitchen sink with some soap, and call it a day!
Is MilkCoat™ Food-Contact Safe?
MilkCoat™ is not food-contact safe. It’s not suitable for surfaces or items that will come in contact with food like spoons, bowls or bread boards. The same goes for things that will come in contact with someone’s mouth, like wooden children’s toys or a baby crib.
If you’re looking for a food-contact safe option, try our MilkOil™ Indoor/Hemp Seed Oil. MilkWax-ECO™ Natural is also a good choice if you want the hard-drying durability of MilkCoat™ in a food-contact safe form.
Tips For Applying MilkCoat™
MilkCoat™ can be brushed on using a regular paint brush or a foam applicator brush. It can also be wiped on with a lint-free cloth or a damp sponge.
Because MilkCoat™ dries quickly, keep your applicator tool dampened with water, work fast and maintain a wet edge. (A “wet edge” is basically a line of product that you leave wet as you move from one side of your project to the other. We’ve got tutorial videos coming soon to teach you all about these application techniques!)
MilkCoat™ is water-based, and it gets MilkPaint™ slightly wet as it’s being applied. This will cause your MilkPaint™ to darken in color a bit. It’s good to test out your color and finish combination on an inconspicuous spot on your project or on a scrap piece of wood just to make sure you’ll like the look from beginning to end.
Once you’re finished, MilkCoat™ can take 30 to 60 minutes to fully dry, depending on the thickness of the application. It’s washable in 24 hours, so in one weekend, you can be up and running with your project in record time!
MilkCoat™ can be used on new or old surfaces, and is an excellent finish over MilkPaint™. As time goes by, you can easily re-apply MilkCoat™ on your project as it wears.
Want to change the color of your project? No problem! Your new color of MilkPaint™ can be applied right over MilkCoat™!
MilkCoat™ vs. MilkWax-Eco™
MilkCoat™ and MilkWax-Eco™ are the hardest-wearing, most durable finishes in our collection. They are our go-to recommendations if you’re working in a kitchen or bathroom. So what makes them different from one another? Let’s take a peek!
