Here at Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint, it’s our mission to provide quality refinishing products that are safe for our customers, good for the planet, and represent our deep love for the simple beauty of MilkPaint™. In celebration of Earth Day on Friday (April 22, 2022), we want to share our core beliefs and why eco-friendly products are so important to our owners and the brand.
Every day we use products in our home that can affect the well-being of our family. The owners of the brand wanted to supply safe products that are all-natural, eco-friendly, and non-toxic. We all need to feel good about the products we bring into our homes, and Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint products are no exception. Not only are our products safe for your home, but they are safe for the environment.
MilkPaint™
Miss Mustard Seed’s® MilkPaint™ is eco-friendly, 100% natural, non-toxic, biodegradable, compostable, and contains no VOCs. MilkPaint™ in powdered or mixed forms will not harm the environment. It is plant-based which makes it like no other paint on the market. Although most are water-based, they are not bio-degradable and compostable. This means you can safely paint your projects and wash the excess MilkPaint™ down your drain without worrying about the environmental impact.
MilkOil™
In addition to being eco-friendly, Miss Mustard Seed’s® MilkOil™ Indoor/Hemp Seed Oil is also sustainably sourced. We are proud to say our hemp seed oil is sourced from a co-op of family-owned farms in the USA. These farmers consider the environmental and social impact of their farming activities - choosing to practice regenerative farming, which minimizes soil disturbance, maximizes crop diversity, keeps the soil covered, maintains living roots year-round, and integrates the use of livestock. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said in a letter to all state governors in 1937 that “The Nation that destroys its soil destroys itself.” If that is true, is it possible that the nation that saves its soils saves itself? These farmers are now trying to make a difference by repairing the damage to our soil ecosystem, and we a proud to be in partnership with this amazing co-op.
Our MilkOil™ is non-GMO and made from hemp seeds grown and pressed without herbicides and pesticides. MilkOil™ is produced with a cold press, followed by a multi-step filtration process down to one micron, making it clean, clear, and food-contact safe. You can feel comfortable using this amazing oil on everything from your cutting board to your child’s toys.
MilkWax-ECO™
MilkWax-ECO™ Clear is our new all-natural wax. It is made entirely with plant-based ingredients and is vegan-friendly. No mineral oils or solvents, just natural ingredients like carnauba wax and walnut oil. These ingredients make MilkWax-ECO™ green and sustainable. This wax is perfect for any surface that needs occasional scrubbing, like kitchen cabinets, butcher block countertops, and children's toys and furniture. Our other eco-friendly products include MilkWax-ECO™ Onyx and Umber, MilkWax™, MilkMix-EZ™, MilkGrip™ Indoor/ Bonding Agent, and MilkCoat™. You can use these products on your projects with no harmful impact on your home or on the environment.
Our Green Emblem
While most of our products are eco-friendly, some have additional benefits. This great emblem signifies which products are eco-friendly, 100% natural, non-toxic, and contain no VOCs. The products that fall into this category are MilkPaint™, MilkOil™ Indoor/Hemp Seed Oil, MilkWax-ECO™, and MilkMix-EZ.
Why are the points on this emblem important? Good question. Just because a paint has no VOCs does not make it non-toxic. Look at the ingredient list - do you know what each ingredient is and if it is safe? We are proud of the safe ingredients in our products and believe in transparency. Each product on our website has an ingredient tab on its page so you can see the list. You can feel good about our products and using them in your home and around your family and pets.
