DIY Painted Pinecone Christmas Wreath

Merry Christmas! This is my favorite time of the year to craft because it is where my crafting bug started. I vividly remember helping my mother create handmade ornaments, craft wreaths, and decorate the house for Christmas as a child. I love today’s project because you can get your children involved to spark that same crafting bug. Today we are embellishing a simple evergreen wreath into a stunning Christmas wreath using pinecones and Miss Mustard Seed’s MilkPaint™ in Tricycle.

My favorite paint color to use this time of the year of Miss Mustard Seed’s MilkPaint™ is Tricycle. The stunning red turns anything into Christmas, even pinecones!

I also love today’s project because it is inexpensive. You may have pinecones that you can forage from your own backyard, or you can find them at your local craft store. And, then, you can use embellishments that you already own to add some more dimension and characters like the velvet bow and miniature baubles.

Since this project only requires a little bit of Miss Mustard Seed’s MilkPaint™, you can use paint leftover from another larger project. And, since Miss Mustard Seed’s MilkPaint™ is non-toxic, your children can help make and paint the pumpkins as well!

For your convenience, I created a step-by-step video tutorial for you to create your own pinecone wreath this Christmas. You can watch it below. Then follow along for the step-by-step picture tutorial.

Now, let’s get painting!

To create your own Pinecone wreath with MilkPaint™, you will need:

Mix the MilkPaint™

Mix 1 part MilkPaint™ with 1 part water. A “part” can be any unit of measurement you wish. I used a tablespoon.

For this project, I used 1 tablespoon of Miss Mustard Seed’s MilkPaint™ in Tricycle to 1 tablespoon of water.

Then mix with a whisk, fork, or mixer until the paint is fully incorporated.

Paint One Coat of MilkPaint™ onto the Pinecones

Apply 1 coat of MilkPaint™ to the pinecones. Use a craft paintbrush to get inside the pinecone. I went for full coverage.

Set the pinecones aside to dry.

Assemble Your Pinecone Wreath with Hot Glue

At the bottom center, attach hot glue to the back of a pinecone. Then place it on its side. Hot glue another pinecone right next to it to create a v-shape at the bottom of the wreath.

Then, one at a time, continue to attach the pinecones to the wreath next to each other.

*I kept the wreath symmetrical, so when I attached a pinecone on one side, I tried to attach a similar size pinecone to the other side.

Once all of the pinecones are on the wreath, start to hot glue on miniature baubles for added interest. I love the juxtaposition of the shiny baubles with the natural elements of the pinecones.

Then, finish off the wreath with a simple velvet bow at the center, or bottom of the wreath.

Hang your Pinecone Wreath for all to Enjoy this Holiday Season

Find your favorite interior door, wall, or mantle, and hang your custom pinecone wreath for all to enjoy this holiday season!

I love how classic yet fun this wreath turned out. As you will see from the video, I love how simple and inexpensive it was to make even more.

I hope you have just as much fun making yours this Christmas!
