Let’s chat about January’s MMSMP Color of the Month. It’s our powder blue, Colonial Blue!
This historical shade of powder blue reminds us of men's vests with brass buttons, shutters on a Williamsburg cottage, and the clapboard siding of a governor's residence. It made a resurgence in the 1960s as an interior color for homes. (previously Shutter Gray) *Note: Colonial Blue is a color that can look different based on lighting and surroundings.

Colonial Blue and Other Colors
Colonial Blue pairs well with Ink Blue, Dried Lavender, Lucketts Green, Tricycle, and Mustard Seed Yellow.

A Soft Touch of Color
Colonial Blue is perfect for all styles, including traditional, modern, bohemian, etc. It looks beautiful when paired with, neutrals, browns, and wood tones.
We especially love Colonial Blue pieces when paired with stained wood, like this potting table.
Colonial Blue and The Chippy Look
Colonial Blue looks so beautiful when it's chipped back. You can use a resist or sand back to create a super chippy look. Or try mixing up your MilkPaint™ thicker to create a crackled chippy look.
So how do you achieve the chippy look? First, you'll need to start by prepping your piece by giving it a thorough clean, then sanding. Next, mix up your MilkPaint™ and paint 2-3 layers onto your piece. Let the paint dry, then use a scraper or sandpaper to remove small sections of the paint until you achieve the desired level of distressing. Finally, apply a finish to prevent the piece from chipping further. We recommend using MilkCoat™ to protect your newly finished furniture and enjoy its unique, chippy charm.
Colonial Blue and White Wax
Want to soften the look of a Colonial Blue-painted piece? Add some MilkWax™ White as a finish to lighten the finish and add a white-washed feel. For the Love Creations stained the top of this piece in Carolina Dune and sealed with Clear and White wax. The Colonial Blue was mixed up thick, to create a crackled look.
