Whitewashed Eastlake Dresser With Mirror

Miss Mustard Seed’s White Wax Makes It Super Easy To Whitewash!

Whitewashing is a super fun technique that can be achieved in a variety of ways. One of the easiest I have found is to use White Wax by Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.

It was the perfect design choice for this gorgeous Eastlake style dresser with mirror and glove boxes.

Applying White Wax

Miss Mustard Seed’s White Wax is very easy to apply over raw wood to achieve a whitewashed look. Simply rub on with a microfiber cloth or a wax brush (my favorite technique).

Then, buff away the excess with a lint-free cloth. I like using these Rags in a Box that you can get from the paint aisle in your hardware store or on Amazon.

These cloths are lint-free and make short work of wiping away stain, wax, etc.

The results are stunning!

When you use this technique, White Wax will settle into any recessed areas and low points on your piece, creating a gorgeous effect.

Eastlake Features With New Additions

This whitewashed dresser and mirror are quintessentially Victorian Eastlake. The boxy shape softened by spoon carved details are trademark characteristics of pieces from this era. The glove boxes on top are an added bonus and offer more storage for smaller treasures.

With that said, this piece came without the original hardware. Instead, it had French Provincial style handles, which don’t match this type of furniture.

When it came to swapping out the hardware, I opted for these depression-era glass knobs and handles.

I know these aren’t the same era either, but they soften the piece and play well with the whitewashed look.

One of my least favorite aspects of this dresser is the red marble insert in the middle.

It’s a touch you definitely don’t see on newer styles of furniture, but I wish the color was white instead of red. It’s easy for the new owner to remove though and could quickly be swapped out with another stone option.

Hello there! [Insert virtual hug]

I’m Jenn Baker of Jennifer Baker Creative.

I started my entrepreneurial journey as a furniture refinisher and paint retailer after falling in love with Miss Mustard Seed and her incredible Milk Paint. This love has blossomed into a multi-faceted creative business.

Currently, I blog for Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint and appear on QVC as a guest host for their private garden brand, “Marigold”. When I’m not on national television or elbow-deep in MilkPaint™ projects, you’ll find me enjoying period dramas like Downton Abbey or savoring my third cup of coffee for the day.

I am married to a hockey-playing statistician named Marc and we have 2 cats - Nelson and Jake. Marc and I got married during an epic blizzard in 2016 when over 3 feet of snow fell overnight. Needless to say, our wedding photos are amazing!
