Three Thanksgiving Tablescapes
Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with family, friends and of course, FOOD!
This year, we got rather crafty and created a few different Thanksgiving tablescapes using MMS MilkPaint™. We painted candlesticks, napkin rings, chargers and breadbaskets - oh my!
As an added bonus, we’re introducing you to one of our BRAND NEW finishes. Let’s dive in and learn why our chosen products are ideal for projects that will come in contact with food.
Introducing Our NEW MilkPaint™ Formulation!
It was essential to the MMS MilkPaint™ brand that we provide safe products for our customers. The NEW MilkPaint™ formula is eco-friendly, non-toxic, all-natural, and 100% organic. We love that it’s biodegradable and compostable. With these changes, we have made the MilkPaint™ food contact safe. You can now add it to your table, kitchen and serve wares without hesitation!
NEW! Food-Safe MilkWax-Eco™
Let us also introduce you to our new food-safe finish, MilkWax-Eco™. This incredible finish does NOT contain even the slightest amount of solvent, mineral oil, or VOCs, making it the perfect food-safe wax! It is entirely plant-based and vegan-friendly.
You can feel good about protecting your butcher block, cutting and charcuterie boards, wooden spoons and other serving wares with this wax. It is easy to apply, sets up in 24 hours and fully cures in just a few days. Once cured, the surface has a long-term water-resistant finish that is washable. (Yes, you read that correctly - WASHABLE!)
Look for MilkWax-Eco™ from your local retailer in December 2021!
Milk Painting Chargers And Napkin Rings
We started preparing our Thanksgiving tablescapes by painting these natural water hyacinth plate chargers and these matching napkin rings using our NEW MilkPaint™. Because it’s food-safe, it’s an excellent choice for these types of surfaces.
Our color of choice was Schoolhouse Red, which will be available later this year. It’s a bit more muted than Tricycle, and reminds us of the clapboard siding on a single room schoolhouse.
The MilkPaint™ was mixed in a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part paint. (A “part” can be any unit of measurement.) This made the MilkPaint™ watery, almost like a stain.
After a few light coats, we sealed them with our new MilkWax-Eco™ Clear. Remember, our MilkWax-Eco™ is washable once cured, so you don’t have to stress about Thanksgiving leftovers finding their way onto your chargers!
Serving Trays, Charcuterie Boards And Bread Baskets
Cheese Board Serving Tray
To make a cheese and cracker spread for our Thanksgiving tablescapes, we found this 1 inch thick round wooden disc and decided to use it as a tray.
We painted it in our 4:1 Schoolhouse Red MilkPaint™ mixture.
The tray was sealed in food-safe MilkWax-Eco™ and promptly adorned with cheese and crackers!
Charcuterie Board
To make a charcuterie board, we took this square wooden tray with rounded corners and painted it using our rich brown, Curio. We mixed up our MilkPaint™ in the same 4 parts water to 1 part ratio, applied a few light coats and then sealed it in MilkWax-Eco™.
Mixing MilkPaint™ in this 4:1 ratio makes it act like a stain, allowing the beautiful wood grain and character to show.
Our charcuterie spread looks much more elevated now that it’s in a handsome stained tray!
Bread Basket
What’s a proper Thanksgiving meal without rolls? We nestled our fresh-from-the-oven rolls in this woven basket. We’ll give you 2 guesses as to what it’s painted in!
Did you notice how you don’t need a napkin or towel to protect the rolls from the painted basket? That’s because our reformulated MilkPaint™ is food-safe along with our MilkWax-Eco™.
Oh happy day!
Chunky Pillar Candle Holder Centerpiece
Did you happen to notice those gorgeous pillar candle holders on our Thanksgiving table?
We painted a layer of Trophy as the base color. Then, we followed up with the 4:1 mix of Schoolhouse Red. Finally, each one was protected with MilkWax-Eco™.
Thanksgiving Dough Bowl Centerpiece
You can make any wooden decor items food contact safe by applying our MilkWax-Eco™ Clear!
Take this inexpensive decor dough bowl for example. We applied a few coats of wax, giving it moisture and protection.
Dough bowls make perfect centerpieces for a holiday tables! You can fill them with bread, fruits, vegetables and pastries.
We swapped out the chunky pillar candle holders for our dough bowl, creating a second Thanksgiving tablescape option. After filling it with pumpkins, fruit and nuts, it looked like an oval-shaped cornucopia!
Authentic dough bowls that are true antiques are VERY expensive! By using our MilkWax-Eco™, you get the look of an antique without the hefty price tag. Plus, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing your dough bowl is food contact safe.
Farmhouse Enamel Pitcher Centerpiece
To round out our 3 Thanksgiving tablescape ideas, we added a farmhouse touch with an enamel pitcher.
You can tuck fresh or faux flowers and greens into your pitcher, creating a natural bounty of colors and textures. Bring that botanical beauty down to the table by winding florals around the table. It will be a feast for the eyes!
Thanksgiving Table Settings
We tied each of our three tablescapes together using the same table settings.
