Say Hello To NEW MilkWax-ECO™

Get REacquainted with Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint!

Here at Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint, it’s our mission to provide quality refinishing products that are safe for our customers to use, good for the planet and represent our love for the simple beauty of MilkPaint™.

We have been busy in the MMSMP lab, REbranding, REformulating and REpackaging our beloved line of refinishing products. After months and months of development, we are proud as punch to RElaunch our Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint brand!

Last week, we introduced you to our freshly reformulated MilkPaint™.

This week, we’re so pleased to introduce you to a BRAND NEW addition to our line of quality finishes - MilkWax-ECO™!

A New Family Of Wax Finishes

Our new MilkWax-ECO™ line is a whole new family of wax finishes that we’ve never had before! There are 3 durable options - a clear formula, which we call Natural, a lovely warm brown with a slight reddish cast which we call Umber, and a gorgeous black named Onyx.

Each option in the MilkWax-ECO™ line has a green band along the bottom of the jar with a pair of leaves. This design distinguishes them from our regular MilkWax™ line because MilkWax-ECO™ is green in every way! It’s food-contact safe, has no VOC’s, is plant-based, vegan, non-toxic and all natural!

Let’s dive into these fabulous features a bit more, shall we?

Ingredients

Just like our new MilkPaint™ formula, MilkWax-ECO™ has a handful of natural and pronounceable ingredients. Let’s dive into each color option separately, as their ingredients are slightly different.

MilkWax-ECO™ Natural

Our Natural option contains Carnauba Wax and Walnut Oil.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Carnauba Wax, it comes from the leaves of the Carnauba Palm Tree. It’s a non-toxic wax that is incredibly durable, as it dries very hard on the surface. The Walnut Oil helps to keep the wax pliable and soft during application. It has a lovely nutty smell that dissipates as it cures.

MilkWax-ECO™ Burnt Umber & Onyx

Our two colored options contain Carnauba Wax, Walnut Oil, Beeswax and Natural Pigments (all of which are food-contact safe). The Beeswax was added to help with the Natural Pigments both in suspension, clarity and spreadability.

Fabulous For Food-Contact Surfaces

Because MilkWax-ECO™’s ingredients are all non-toxic and food-contact safe, you can use it for tons of different applications!

How many of you have butcher block countertops at home? Do any of you have bread and charcuterie boards that have seen better days? Ooh! Are any of you wood carvers and turners? MilkWax-ECO™ is a perfect finish for your handmade goods.

Include a jar with your handmade goods when you ship to customers across the country. Pair a jar of MilkWax-ECO™ with a charcuterie board and give it as a housewarming or hostess gift.

Let your minds run wild with this all natural new wax finish!

How Durable Is MilkWax-ECO™?

Some of you may have recognized one of our ingredients - Carnauba Wax. This is the same kind of wax that is used on cars to protect their paint finish. If Carnauba Wax can protect car paint, it’s pretty dang durable!

Our special food-safe blend cures to an extremely hard finish. This makes it ideal for any surface that is going to get a lot of use, like tabletops, cabinets, desks, shelving, wooden serving ware, etc.

Along with being a hard-curing finish, MilkWax-ECO™ is also scrubbable! Now you can clean your refinished kitchen table with peace of mind knowing that your finish is protected. Use a gentle grease-cutting soap like Dawn® or Palmolive® and you’re all set!

Want to refinish your bathroom vanity or kitchen cabinets? Guess what? MilkWax-ECO™ is mold and mildew resistant! Apply it to your cabinetry knowing moisture won’t be an issue.

Important MilkWax-ECO™ Info

We recommend that MilkWax-ECO™ be applied over:

  • Raw Wood

  • MilkPaint™

  • Water or Oil-Based Stains

We do not recommend that MilkWax-ECO™ be:

  • applied over paints outside of our line

  • applied over other finishes (Exception - Burnt Umber and Onyx can be applied over Natural for workability and a more subtle look.)

  • used for outdoor products - it’s an indoor only finish

  • subjected to extremely hot temperatures - it may melt, even after application and curing. After all, it is a wax! ;-)

How to Apply MilkWax-ECO™

You can apply MilkWax-ECO™ with a lint-free cloth or a wax brush. After applying your wax, gently buff away the excess with a lint-free cloth. To build up your coverage, apply multiple thin layers for the best outcome.

MilkWax-ECO™Fun Fact - Create a variety of sheens in your final finish ranging from matte (not shiny) to semi-gloss (shiny), depending on how many coats are applied and how you buff the excess away. The more you buff, and the more vigorous the pace, the shinier your final finish will be.

Imagine a semi-gloss finish on a dining room table!

Once your MilkWax-ECO™ is applied and buffed, wait 5-7 days before light use. Light use means that you’re still being cautious and ginger with the surface.

MilkWax-ECO™ needs 30 days to fully cure.

Special Label Features

All MMS MilkPaint™ Labels Are Wipeable

We’ve packed goodness inside as well as outside of our MilkWax-ECO™ jars! Let’s talk about our labels.

Each product label in our line (including but not limited to MilkWax-ECO™) is wipeable. This means that you can keep your pouches, jars, jugs and bottles clean before, during and after use!

Product-Specific QR Codes

Did you know we have handy-dandy QR codes on our labels now?

Before we go further, let’s talk about what a QR code is for those who are unfamiliar. A QR code stands for “Quick Response Code”. It’s basically a barcode that you can scan with your phone!

To use one of our QR codes, grab your smartphone and open the camera app. Hover over the QR code like you’re about to take a picture of it. You’ll see a little box appear somewhere on screen with a website prompt. Tap on it, and your website browser app will zoom over to our website and pull up the specific product page for that particular product.

So basically, if you ever have a question about how to use a certain product, just scan the QR code on the label and off you go!

Smart, eh?

Supporting Small Businesses In The USA

MMS MilkPaint™ has gone through quite a lot of change recently. Our founder, Marian Parsons, retired from owning the brand back in June of 2020. (You can read more about that here if you wish.)

It was purchased by our current owners, James and Brenda Hess. This dynamic duo is taking MilkPaint™ to the next level in every way possible!

In addition to rebranding the line, reformulating old favorites and adding new products, Brenda and James have partnered with incredible small businesses right here in the USA.

These symbiotic relationships are already starting to move mountains, and we’re so excited to see what the coming years will bring!
