Reinventing an IKEA® Cupboard
Every Friday, we feature a beautiful Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint project in our Move Mountains With Milk Paint Facebook Group - a thriving and bustling online community where creative minds come together to inspire, help and encourage one another.
This week’s featured piece comes to us from one of our talented retailers in Poland, Klaudia of Furniture Concept. One of her customers was on the lookout for a cupboard and found a piece from IKEA® that was the perfect size!
In her usual artistic fashion, Klaudia reinvented it, taking the cupboard from “boring out of the box” to perfectly personalized!
Open Shelving Storage on the Top
Klaudia’s client, Ania, was going to use this piece in an open area of her home between the kitchen and dining room. Ania wanted open shelving on the top rather than the two glass doors. By reworking the top storage area, it would open the piece and make it seem more airy and light.
Klaudia used Spruce boards and attached them to the back of the piece in a toungue-and-groove fashion. She stained them using our lovely warm walnut shade called “Curio”. Klaudia sealed them with Hemp Oil for a rich and deep finish.
If you’d like to learn how to mix your Milk Paint as a stain, you’ll love this Facebook Live filmed by one of our retailers from Georgia, Deb Cottle of Cottle & Gunn!
A Modern Farmhouse Finish
To brighten up Ania’s IKEA® cupboard, Klaudia chose Marzipan to refinish the body.
Marzipan is our warm and cozy shade of almond. It’s one of the six gorgeous colors in our European Collection, and pairs well with Curio-stained accents!
Once she used our fluffy White Wax to seal it, Klaudia easily created a whitewashed driftwood effect!
Then, she cleverly freshened up the bottom storage area by adding wire to the doors. The open grate of the wire gives this piece an industrial, modern farmhouse feel that is so on-trend right now. Plus, it gives you a sneak peek of the treasures inside!
Three cheers to Klaudia for another Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint makeover in her trademark style! We hope she has inspired you to take a second look at some of your assemble-at-home furniture and reimagine it as something custom and unique.
