Milk Painting A Fall Cornucopia
A Creative Interview With Kayla Carrier Of “Creative Thought”
We have the pleasure of getting to know so many talented artisans in our Facebook Group. One of those artisans is Kayla Carrier from Creative Thought.
Kayla recently shared artwork she painted using MMS Milk Paint and some IOD stamps, and we absolutely loved it. We did a mini interview with her to get a glimpse into her creative world, and saw how she created this beauty.
Read on and learn more about Kayla!
How Did You Learn About MMS Milk Paint?
Kayla was born, raised and currently lives in New Brunswick, Canada. She was introduced to our Milk Paint by her local MMS Milk Paint retailer. She had no idea what Milk Paint was at the time, but now it has become her go-to paint for the majority of her projects for over 2 years now.
By the way, that eggplant color on her pumpkin was created by mixing 1 part Farmhouse White, 1 part Ink Blue (formally named Artissimo) and 1 part Tricycle!
What Are Your Favorite Aspects of MMS Milk Paint?
Kayla really likes the versatility of our Milk Paint. It can be smooth and even, or she can make it gritty with an earthy texture. It all depends on how she blends it together.
Mixing her own paint makes her feel like a bit of an art alchemist!
The shelf life of our Milk Paint is also a huge draw for her! Kayla can have a variety of colors in her stash for a long time, and it hardly takes up any space in her tiny studio.
We totally get it, Kayla. We love that too!
How Did You Get Into Art?
As a child, Kayla had art lessons, and kept up the practice all throughout her life. She applied to the fine arts program at the university she was attending, but unfortunately, she didn't get in.
Despite that, Kayla didn't let that stop her from creating!
She has continued to hone her skills each and every day. She thinks she could safely call herself a hobbyist right now, but she’s working towards making her artwork creation a full-fledged business.
What Advice Do You Have For People Who Are Too Intimidated To Get Creative?
Kayla suggests that you create and make mistakes without risk. For example, she is a BIG fan of concept planning. She keeps 2 art journals - one to jot down thoughts, ideas, and supply lists. The other is for art concepts.
She paints on the paper directly to play with color palettes and compositions. This way, she doesn't fret about risking good materials on a piece she may not like in the end. This loose creating takes the fear away and allows her creativity to take the reins.
Kayla also has a ton of scrap wood at her disposal to paint on, which is perfect when she’s in the conceptual stage of her artwork.
