Milk Painted Woodscapes by Crooked Tree Studio
Back in 2019, we introduced you to one of our Featured Artisans, Jodie of Crooked Tree Studio.
Jodie specializes in creating gorgeous woodscapes using salvaged lumber and Miss Mustard Seed's® Milk Paint products. She’s been hard at work in her studio, creating more stunning pieces using colors in our European Collection.
Without further ado, take a look at what she’s been up to!
Woodscapes in MMS Milk Paint’s European Collection
Back in March, we re-launched our European Collection of colors.
We love how she expertly combined the warmth of Marzipan and Schloss with the cool softness of Mora. It makes for a very boho-inspired palette, which pairs perfectly with her collection of plants!
Mountaintop Woodscape
“The mountains are calling, and I must go.”
- John Muir in a letter to his sister, Sarah c. 1873
For all of our nature-lovers and mountaineering enthusiasts, this woodscape is probably calling your name! Notice how Jodie artfully and skillfully used angles and specific cuts to create the sky and snow-capped peaks of her mountains. If you really study the photo above, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the vision she executes in every single work of art!
For the sky, Jodie thinks she mixed Scloss with a tiny bit of Boxwood, Lucketts Green and Trophy to make the color lean towards sage. We say “thinks” because she didn’t write down her mixture exactly. Like many of you, Jodie is an artist who gets into the groove and starts creating as she “sees” her vision to come to life. Sometimes, there simply isn’t time to write recipes down when your creativity is surging and flowing out of your hands!
Mountaintop Woodscape Number 2
This woodscape is a bit different than the previous one.
Notice how the sky in this woodscape runs horizontally rather than converging at complimentary angles. Just imagine how much time it takes to accurately cut each piece of wood to perfectly nestle up against those around it! Wood art like this takes planning and precision, which Jodie masters beautifully!
This piece has symmetry without being too matchy-matchy. Each side of the mountains mirror one another with slight differences here and there. We love how Jodie mimics the true nature of mountains in her work. They are symmetrical to a point, but each side (or face) has its own characteristics.
For this mountain range, Jodie used Schloss, Marzipan and Mora.
Woodscapes 3 and 4
The gorgeousness continues with these final woodscapes.
To seal all of her work, Jodie likes to use our Hemp Oil wood finish. It absorbs easily into the surface, and is ideal for raw wood projects!
You can follow along with Jodie as she continues to churn out wooden eye candy on her website and Instagram feed. She’s definitely one to follow, and continues to inspire us with her unique and expertly crafted creations!
