Miss Mustard Seed's® MilkPaint™ has the answer for your winter blues; Their names are Bergere, Colonial Blue, Aviary, Ink Blue, French Enamel and Flow Blue!

This winter may have you asking, “Does my home need some color?” The answer is yes, and the color is blue! Color is back and in a big way. So if your all-neutral home is giving you the blahs, it’s time to bring color to your world.

We here at Vintage 61 Storehouse have been excited to work with the new paint formulations from Miss Mustard Seed’s® MilkPaint™. We quickly gravitated to Bergere and loved how beautifully the pigments blended. Minimal effort was needed to stir together equal portions of MMS bagged powder formula and warm water. The resulting blend had a smooth and consistent color value. You may remember a product called Bonding Agent. It too has had a rebirth and is whimsically named “MilkGrip™”. By adding an equivalent amount of MilkGrip™ to our mixer of paint, we have chosen to not have our paint coverage turn chippy. Instead, we are opting to have our paint cover our piece in a smooth, solid tone.

She Will Take Your Breath Away!

I’ll give you a minute to look at this amazing signature piece.

Wow is right! This spectacular vintage card catalog is painted in Bergere and then slightly distressed. This gives our former industrial furnishing warmth. The repetitive pattern of drawers lends texture and interest to the background of this living room. Such a defining piece should be placed in an area that is visible from the entry point of the room. If the piece were on a sidewall, it would not act as an anchoring backdrop. Instead, it would be lost behind a corner and not viewed as you approach.

Thanks for the Compliment

A midcentury modern coffee table has been reinvented in the color Aviary and has the added visual impact of two drawers left in natural wood. This warm brown is the complementary color for our blue pallet. A very special natural wood cutting board serves as a tray and echoes the warm woods found in this room.

Did you notice the large-scale window frame over the card catalog? It is painted in Colonial Blue (formally known as Shutter Gray), which has a slight blue cast and adds to the patterning created by the little drawers beneath.

The top of the catalog holds brown glass bottles whose reflective surfaces add dimension to our space. Texture, shape, finishes, and color are all needed for depth and comfort in what could easily be nothing but four lifeless walls.

Keeping It Cozy

Our living room space is all set for a relaxing evening to read a book or entertain friends. A smaller-scaled white couch is the perfect chill spot. I shared a tip in the attached video of how to best enhance the couch. If you want to have the couch look longer, use pillows of a similar color to the couch that has some decorative design.  This will allow the eye to travel across the expanse of the couch. If you want the couch to appear smaller, add dark-colored pillows. This will shorten the distance your eye travels across the white back of the couch.

One of the things that make this room feel so relaxing is the absence of electronics. Fabrics and textures invite you in without the perceived commotion a television implies. But is there no television? Inside this imaginative hutch, you will find a small flat-screen TV. The blue plaid fabric looks equally dynamic when the hutch doors are closed as well as opened. The hutch is painted in Colonial Blue and is given another design strength with original wood drawers and window frames. Guests will not want to leave this homey space and are sure to sneak a few photos to inspire their own homes.
