Furniture Feature Friday

Every Friday, we feature a beautiful Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint project in our Move Mountains With Milk Paint Facebook Group - a thriving, bustling online community where creative minds come together to inspire, help and encourage one another.

We’d love to have you join our Milk Paint community!

This week’s featured piece is a tallboy dresser in our grassy shade called Boxwood from Kristen and Vicki of Timeless Creations!

A Hidden Dresser

When Kristen and Vicki were cleaning out a part of their workshop, they noticed this gorgeous vintage highboy dresser that was hidden behind another piece. They had been itching to refinish something using our Boxwood, and this pretty piece fit the bill!

Vintage tallboy dresser before

Now we know this “before” photo is itty-bitty. You know how that goes though - you’re so eager to get started on your Milk Paint project that taking a “before” photo is usually an “after” thought.

See what we did there? Before? After? :-)

Miss Mustard Seed’s® Milk Paint in Boxwood

Boxwood is one of our most popular colors on our social media feeds. We lovingly joke that green is the new black!

Working with Boxwood can be a bit tricky, as the pigments tend to separate in your cup. This is due to the fact that blue and yellow pigments have different densities and they pull away from one another, kind of like oil and water. This is what the painting industry refers to as “float”. Frequent stirring is recommended along with these suggestions we’ve laid out in our “Tips for Painting With Boxwood” blog post.

Wet Sanding With Hemp Oil

After the dresser was painted in Boxwood, it was finished with our Hemp Oil.

To achieve a buttery soft finish, distress and apply the Hemp Oil all in one step, Kristen and Vicki used a technique called “wet sanding”. You can learn how to do it by watching our founder, Marian Parsons (aka Miss Mustard Seed), in this tutorial video:

The Beautiful Results

After the excess Hemp Oil was wiped away, and the original hardware was installed again, the dresser was had a fresh new finish!
